Problem with Indian dog breeds.

Fraud committed by breeders and sellers.

This one is the biggest problem with indigenous Indian dog breeds.  Reliability of the source is in the question. You must understand that any of the Indian dog breeds is not akin to the regular stray dog. But yes when they are very small like 25-40 days old no one can identify particular breed until and unless they are sure of their origin. Most of the times novice breeders and cunning pet sellers lure in customers on a false promise. They promise them a particular breed and then sell a common stray dog to them. Most of the times a newcomer to dogs do not know anything about recognizing the breed. Thus the become victims of fraud.

The solution to saving yourself from such fraud.

First things first, learn to recognize the breed of your interest. This will save you from the majority of wrongdoings by pet shops nearby. Also, this will help you to locate a reputed breeder. When you will recognize the breed of your interest you will find it easier to search and locate a reputed breeder.

Secondly, learning about the breed will let you pinpoint your favourite breed in a group of similar breeds. For example, a Rajyapalayam hound is very easily recognizable but it’s difficult to distinguish between a Rampur hound, a Mudhol hound and a caravan hound. So, it is obvious that if you won’t be able to distinguish your favourite Indian dog breed then you can easily end up with something else.

Thirdly, locate a reputed breeder. Reputed breeders are usually in some other profession and promote a breed out of pure love and admiration. For example my good friend Mr Tejas Kamalkar. He is a mechanical engineer by profession and is running his own business and a manufacturing unit. When you will look for a breeder you will find that there are several government officers, businessman, bank officers, university professors and many more are into breeding Indian dog breeds. These people are much much better than any pet shop. They will be available to guide you at every step of your journey.
