German shepherd dogs Shedding season

German shepherd dogs Shedding season:  Grooming in shedding season is an altogether different story than regular grooming. If you have ever owned a GSD you would know what I am talking about. During the time when GSD sheds its coat it’s going to be a mess around your house until and unless you are going to groom your dog regularly and more thoroughly during this time. If this problem stayed unanswered the dog hair is going to get everywhere. Everywhere means everywhere. It’s going to get in your food, in your water, on your furniture, on your cloths, in your mouth; literally everywhere.

So, what should be done? First of all you have to prepare yourself to be disciplined and consistent in regularly grooming your dog. During normal days you can relax a bit and brush your GSD lightly with once a week through grooming. But during shedding days you need to give at least 15-20 minutes per dog on daily basis for 10-15 days. Believe me this is the most exhausting aspect when you are having 12 German shepherd dogs to groom and all are in their shedding period. May be grooming one or two dogs might not be a big problem but more than 4 dogs at a time is really cumbersome.

Let me show you.

The picture below is just one session of grooming or German shepherd dogs Shedding season under coat removal for 2 hours straight. One dog gets around 6-8 such sessions for a time of about 3 weeks along with quick and gentle daily sweep of flicker brush.

German shepherd dogs Shedding season

The German shepherd dogs Shedding season is completed in a pattern more or less similar for every dog. First the hair on back is going to loosen up from roots then this hair fall is going to spread towards extremities. The hair on the limbs and under the neck is going to come last. During this period strands of undercoat and lose upper coat is going to fall and new hair will sprout from the skin. This is a gradual process but mostly any sign of visible coat change comes far too late to new or ignorant owners.

During this period the skin of your dog is exposed more so the risk of skin infections and the formation of skin flaky skin in possible. Also since the hair cover is going to diminish further the use of flicker brush will leave bruises on your dog’s skin. In such time wide steel wire comb with rounded tips are best.

So next time you are going to get a German shepherd just look into German shepherd grooming beforehand.
