English Grey Hound Facts : One of the most recognizable breed worldwide even to common people who are not closely engaged in keeping dogs in this day to day life. Such is the popularity of this breed. English Grey Hound Facts: Appearance

  1. A tall and slender dog.
  2. Long and powerful legs.
  3. Very strong thigh and shoulder muscles.
  4. Deep chested dog with huge lung capacity.
  5. Long neck supported by very strong muscles.
  6. Flexible spine and points.
  7. Long skull and elongated muzzle.
  8. Males should be 28 inches tall but should not outgrow 31 inches in height.
  9. Females should be 27 inches tall at least, but the limit of 30 inches should not be exceeded.
  10. Grey hounds are slim, defined and very balanced dogs that should not be over–weight in any sense.
  11. Ideal weight for males should 33-35kgs, but permissible limit is 27-40kgs.
  12. For females the weight limit is 26-34kgs.
  13. Tough significantly over weight English Grey Hound dogs are easy to be found in loving and pampering homes.
  14. English Grey Hounds have very short and tight fitting coat.
  15. They come in several colors variations.
  16. I don’t remember each and every Grey Hound color but these might be more than 30 recognized colors and color combinations.

English Grey Hound Facts: Temperament

  1. Contrary to a common belief, English Grey Hound are not very difficult to maintain.
  2. Most of the times, the aloofness and other behavioral Problems arise due to the initial socialization problems.
  1. In general, these dogs are loving and affectionatev.towards their immediate family which they consider their pack.
  2. When provided correct training and early socialization they are calm and confident.
  3. But since tey are sight hounds they are suspicious of strangers and a poorly socialized English Grey Hound will have a fragile calm around overactive and nosy strangers.
  4. A properly trained, socialized and exercised English Grey Hound is a calm, docile and loving dos.
  5. An English Grey Hound retired from racing circuit does make a wonderful couch potato and why not, it seems logical to retire and enjoy life living in the case of a loving family after spending your golden years living a fast pace life of a splinter.
  6. Despite laid back and relaxed attitude of English Grey Hound you should always remember that this is a hunting breed. Their instincts will be back in the blink of an eye if they saw small animals like squirrels or even small unfamiliar pets like cats and small dogs in the open.
  7. You should keep your English Grey Hound on leash while walking on a busy street.
  8. Also install a high fence in your yard. You absolutely do not want you English Grey Hound to get excited at a glimpse of neighbor’s cat or a pug.
