Welcome to the series of dog breeds presented to you by Kaivalaya’s Ani-Mall. We are presently in the first part of our series in which we were presenting sighthounds. In the first chapter of this series we were discussing the Afghan hound and in our previous post we have introduced the concept of respect training for dogs of Afghan hound breed. In this post, we will elaborate the concept of respect training for puppies and respect training your dogs of Afghan hound breed.

Afghan hound; why respect training for puppies is important

Before giving an answer to the question of respect training for puppies; we need to understand the pack order in dogs or for that matter the pack order of wolves. In a wolf pack, there is a hierarchy of members. There are young and old who need to be taken care of. Then there are members who form the hunting party. Above all, there is an alpha male or female that is the leader of the pack. Nothing happens in the pack without the will and desire of the Alpha.

Think about it; wolves don’t get fancy training from a dog trainer. They learn to respect the authority of the Alpha and place their trust in their leader.

This is the goal we need to achieve with the respected training for puppies. Puppies should learn to trust their master rather than just responding for treats or worse for fear.

In the easier to train breeds like Labrador or a German shepherd; respect training for puppies is easier. But in the sighthounds, especially in Afghan hound the respected training for puppies is difficult to achieve, even more, difficult than the respect training dogs in higher ages.

Respect training for puppies should start early. You can do respect training for puppies even at the age of one month. Don’t be alarmed by this, mothers do respect training for puppies all the time. They will entertain their pups all the time but they will most certainly tell them what is not desirable. Though, it should be kept in mind that when you are doing respect training for puppies you should not come down on then harshly. Respect training for puppies should be done in strict but loving and gentle manner. You scold them over the limit and you are risking losing their trust in you. A good master will always remain calm and firm in his ways yet he/she should be loving gentle and trustworthy for their dogs.
